The Whole 9 Months A WeekByWeek Pregnancy Nutrition Guide with Recipes for a Healthy Start Jennifer Lang MD Dana Angelo White MS RD Jessica Alba 9781943451487 Books Reviews

  • The recipes would be great for someone who stays at home and has the time to make everything from scratch. She also criticizes processed foods, but living without processed/pre-made foods is not realistic if you have a job. I also didn't appreciate the condescending tone about pregnancy cravings "If you crave Skittles while you are pregnant, try your best not to eat them. Think about each one of your cravings and how it will affect your baby." In other words, unless you are perfect and never touch candy, make sure you feel guilty because you're hurting your baby. Gee, thanks for the guilt trip. Then she lost all credibility with me when she said you shouldn't consume GMOs; there's absolutely no evidence of harm caused by GMOs. I'm returning this book because after reading that, I can't trust her.
  • I was excited to get this cookbook. My husband and I are trying for a baby and I wanted to start early with getting the best food. Some of the recipes in here are on my list to try, others I wouldn’t even bother with..eggplant stackers? No thanks.

It’s not bad, but not great. I’m also a picky eater so I’m looking forward to trying some of the recipes in here.

I do like the trimester information at the beginning of the book.

It doesn’t include photos of every recipe. A few photos are scattered in the book.
  • I wanted this to be a go-to during my pregnancy, but it's less helpful than I hoped. Only about half of the book is devoted to recipes. I had hoped it would have full meal plans for each week, to take some of the guesswork out of food prep. Instead it's a general guide to how much of each nutrient you need (info also listed in every other book on pregnancy I've seen). The recipes are organized by dish like a regular cookbook.
  • I had to return this. I was expecting a month by month recipe book based on what your body needs. Instead I got simple recipes that I actually already eat. (Think smoothies and avocado toast). No recipe was exciting enough to make this book worth keeping.
  • This book brings back very fond memories. It helps you eat right every day the entire time you are pregnant. It was very helpful to me as I was too busy and stressed at work to do my own research about eating right while pregnant. I would sometimes make the meals ahead of time and keep them in the freezer or just buy but at least I knew i was eating what was recommended by the experts. I am pregnant again and I have this book by me every night. I love it and would recommend using a prenatal Vitamiss Prenatal - Optimal Women's Supplement for Healthy Pre and Post Pregnancy!.These are a very good choice for prenatals. The supplement amounts rival pricey prescription vitamin levels, and they did not cause me any stomach discomfort at all.
  • This book isn't very detailed. I found it very generic in terms of what to do (eat more vegetables, don't drink, don't smoke...)
  • Recipes are great.... book is best suited for those who are not big meat eaters and concerned with mitigating weight gain. While I find a lot of the information helpful, not everything in it is realistic for some women and those who read it should consider that it’s one persons perspective. If you can’t afford to eat organic everything and don’t want to beat yourself up for eating gluten .. this book is not for you.
  • Favorite book during pregnancy - hands down. Has a simple mix of what's going on week-by-week with baby and some really simple recipes / things to focus on eating. The recipes are SUPER simple and don't take a ton of time to put together - this is exactly what I needed. I've found a couple of really healthy 'go-to' recipes that I'll put together on Sunday for the next couple of days. My husband likes them too!
