Sold To Be A Wife Only a determined foster carer can stop a terrified girl from becoming a child bride eBook Maggie Hartley Reviews
- I enjoyed this book- similar to Cathy glass' The Child Bride. It had the added issue of FGM. Shazia's story was horrific but I found the book's pacing to be slow and not much detail about her family was ever revealed. I suppose that's how the real story happened. It just seemed anticlimactic that this terrible situation occurred and then it was 'over'. Also I wondered at the title- did I miss anywhere that said Shazia was being sold? An arranged marriage, yes. I did like the book but wanted to know more.
- Although I read this genre often, I didn’t think I was going to like this book because of the topic. However, it was a great book. I enjoy reading about Maggie’s thoughts on everything and the day to day life they live. This topic is foreign to me, as I’ve never met and don’t know of anyone affected by female genital mutilation, or the strict rules and customs that the girl’s family followed. It was extremely interesting, and very scary to learn that that stuff actually happens. The book was very well written, and hard to put down. Looking forward to Maggie’s next book.
- Poor girl, It does turn out better in end but this young girl was really put threw so much . I hope she contacts you after she is 18. She can contact her best friend again when she is of age. Nothing anyone can do to stop her. I truly hop her and Zeena find each other again. Friends like that are hard to find.
- Another great story written so well it pulls you in. I love spending time (through reading) with Maggie and her family and associates. The story was fascinating and full of surprises.I have read all her books. Sorry to finish this latest one and look forward to the next.
- I read this book in less than 24 hours it was so hard to put down! I have read many books on child abuse and foster care but nothing as traumatic as this one. I literally have a headache right now from crying so much having just finished the book. As difficult as it was to read, this book was incredible.
- What a clear look into the world of foster care in the UK. Gripping story, sad at times but real. This is so important to learn about. Children are in need of good foster carers the world over.
- I have to say Maggie Hartley is a wonderful writer. I have read all her books. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down. I would definitely suggest all of Maggie's books to all my friends. I can't wait for her new book coming out that I pre-ordered. Wish it was tomorrow. Thank You so much Maggie for such wonderful books.
- Very interesting read. Inaccurate title. And seems like mentioning witness protection goes against the rules of witness protection?
