"The Bible is very readable and meets my expectations as a study tool as well. My only disappointment, if I can call it that is the binding is a bit stiffer than I had hoped for. A very small minus when talking about the Greatest Book in History!"

NASB Thinline Bible Zondervan 0025986917272 Books Reviews
- Be aware that 'leather bound,' in this case, means 'bonded leather.' It won't stand up to heavy use. If you want better, look into the definitions of the various kinds of leather bindings you see for sale. The modern spectrum (2016) runs from 'bonded,' which is reconstituted, up to 'pure aniline.' Don't waste your money on a lesser grade than you want, like I did. -) I've added a picture of my old bonded leather thinline Bible...this is what happens if you actually use them much.
Otherwise, the NAS is still one of the most literal translations out there in the English language. I recommend it for study. It may be best to purchase a reference edition, however, which can aid a broader understanding and make the meanings more accessible. - My wife has one of these from before we met. Loved it so much that I got my own. It's a shame that most Christian book stores don't carry more formally equivalent translations in good bindings like these. Got mine slightly used for super cheap - 2002 copy.
As with all thinlines, the text is small and every effort has been made efficiently use the real estate of every page. Appropriately, there's not much of a margin. I take notes separately, so this isn't a problem for me. But if you're a margin-note person, you'll be disappointed.
Zondervan provides two types of covers bonded leather and Italian two-toned calfskin-style leather (not sure if it's genuine or simulated). I have the former and my wife, the latter. My only complaint is that the bonded leather is taking a while to break in. I don't read from this copy every day, but it's generally the Bible I have on me during the day, so it's opened frequently. The calfskin cover will stay open and flat on a table whereas my bonded leather copy is slowly gaining this ability - but only the areas to which it's frequently opened.
Admittedly, the bonded leather look isn't very exciting. But in ten years, when a calfskin cover would be bent to decrepity from years of being thrown into a bag several times a day, my bonded leather copy will be stylin' and profile'n. Just not really - cause it looks kinda boring. I like the minimal aesthetic, so it fits me well. That's up to you.
In all, I recommend this thinline. The font, the typeface, the use of page space, and the binding itself are great. I put four star simply because it could be improved. My favorite thinline, in this regard, is the Holman Christian Standard. Sorry, Zondervan. But Holman has one-up'd you. But only by a little. It is, at times, difficult to find a formally equivalent translation in thinline form, as the Holman is not. That said, serious students of Christian theology should get a thinline like this. Ditch that NIV and go with the translation that'll put hair on your chest. - This is a very good black bonded leather thinline bible. I wanted a NASB thinline bible for reading purposes only... this product meets that need perfectly.
- For the price, you couldn't ask for a much better Bible. It is hard to find NASB to begin with, let alone a thin, attractive Bible without someone's commentary polluting God's word.
- I really wanted to like this bible but it is bonded leather and not "genuine leather", though I do believe companies are able to market bonded leather that way, regardless I am returning it. The paper is somewhat see-through but I do like the layout; paragraph format and decent spacing so that the words are uncluttered.
- I love this bible. Much lighter to carry. My other two bibles, KJV and NIV were very heavy to carry. Made my arm ache at times. I was a little concerned about bleedthru but so far with pen underline or yellow highlight, I have not had anything show thru to the other side of the page. Someone recommended NASB version to me a few months back and I really like this translation.
- The Bible is very readable and meets my expectations as a study tool as well. My only disappointment, if I can call it that is the binding is a bit stiffer than I had hoped for. A very small minus when talking about the Greatest Book in History!
- I was a bit wary of purchasing this bible without being able to handle it/look at it, but I am very glad that I did. I have been using this primarily as an alternative version of text opposite of my NLT and ESV and have found myself using it more so than the others (as they are both heftier study bibles). Aside from the pleasing aesthetics of the Bible, I have been greatly enjoying the NASB version as it is very true to original scripture (word for word) and feels comfortable to hold.
The NASB Thinline Bible is
Great overall quality - pages, cover, binding are all and continue to be in excellent shape despite heavy use
Attractive
"Thin" - lays down nicely on a flat surface
Contains a good size of font that contributes to ease of reading
Is a small size and is not heavy
Contains Red Letter text for all words spoken by Christ
My overall recommendation could not be more so for anyone considering this purchase. I believe, personally, that this would make an ideal gift or addition to anyone using God's word as a supplementary text to other versions or simply to use as a travel Bible. Either way, it is a solid purchase.
