"I learned to play with this book 30 years ago, and now I use it with my students. The revised version is even better than I remember, and I recently got the Kindle version. It is well indexed, although a bit challenging to turn pages with a foot pedal. This book is a solid repertoire and training choice for the aspiring intermediate violinist and contains full length Vivald and Bach pieces, plus some very good position shifting exercises that will help bring your playing to the next level. Get the piano part if you want to perform these pieces with an accompanist. The companion recording is also invaluable."

Suzuki Violin School Volume 4 Shinichi Suzuki Books Reviews

  • The Suzuki repertoire is varied, interesting, pleasant to listen to, and fun to play. There are videos on Youtube to help me learn the pieces. Even though I'm coming to violin as an adult learner, it's great that this method isn't just for little kids. I'm really enjoying this book.
  • Suzuki violin is a great program that is well arranged. Students play great music from multiple composers and students (and parents) learn about different composers and musical styles. Students get to play "real" music.

Songs sound pleasant to the ear, a bonus for parents, and many of the songs are catchy. I find myself humming the current song throughout the day.

A challenging book that will enhance any repertoire. Much better than the essential elements style of book for the private violin student who has been playing for a few years because the songs are long and challenging. These books are for the advancing student with a teacher who works with them to move along or the experienced violin player who wants a variety of good material in one book. My child's book is all marked up with notes from the teacher helping with bowing.

That said, these books require a private instructor for students since there are no diagrams or images to show finger positions or give details about shifting. The violin student doesn't work simply on one new skill and move on to the next then play the big song as they do in the teaching type books. New skills aren't isolated. Some children may not like the Suzuki style since you aren't acquiring new skills as fast, you are learning new skills while working on previous concepts in long songs.

  • This book is a great next level in the Suzuki series for Violin. It has great pieces that are definitely more challenging than the book before it, like the Vivaldi, and truly gives the user space to improve. The only thing that is quite unfortunate is the amount of songs that are in the book. In the previous books, there are many different songs to play, but in book 4, there are significantly less; this may be because the songs are harder, but it would still be nice if there were more songs to work with. But overall, it is a great book for a student to work with.
  • Ordered this a few months ago, but with Christmas and daughter's illness, just listened to accompanying cd. It is TOTALLY the wrong music. The label on the cd is correct for Volume 4, but the playlist is NOT what is in the book. The composers on the cd are Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Clementi. But the composers for Volume 4 are Seitz, Vivaldi, Bohm, and Bach, I'm very disappointed because I was copying it to her MP3 so she could practice for contest when I realized NONE of the songs match her book--thus she has NO accompaniment to work with. Don't know what happened, but it can't be returned this late. Next time I will check immediately!!
  • Just what I needed for my student! Clear and easy to read and shipped fast even with Prime!
  • As with all Suzuki books, it contains a variety of pieces that guide violinists through progress. This one is a bit of a jump from book three, but it achievable. The pieces are lovely and lots of fun to beat, polish ,and play through.
  • Last piece is the 1st movement of the Bach Double--if you're looking for a good copy that shows both violin parts together (violin 2 slightly larger) without the piano (like the Galamian), then this is a good choice. It is 5 pages.
